Heading Out

Originally, we planned to leave for our trip at 8am. Of course, we instead left the house close to noon. I guess a vacation wouldn't be a vacation if things went to plan.

Someone here is grumpy and doesn't like there picture taken before 8am.

CIMAR

Our first (and only) stop was at the lab I worked in during my master's. CIMAR, or the Center for Intelligent Machines and Robotics, is where I spent the last 3 years of my life. I needed to give the lab a copy of my research, so we decided to make CIMAR the first stop in our American Tour.

A couple of my friends from the lab, Pete and Chad.

I'm not robbing Jose in this picture... I just caught him off guard.

Liz loves CIMAR, but that's probably apparent from the enthusiasm.

This was my old desk at CIMAR. Not much to look at, but it was home.

Alabama

Despite everyone's predictions, Liz and I made it out of Florida in our first day. The FL part of the drive wasn't anything exciting, but Alabama offered some new scenery.

Liz took this picture of the sun setting in near Mobile, AL.

This may not be exciting for most people, but this was my first trip in a tunnel. I thought it was really cool!

Mobile is a fairly dirty place with a lot of industry and a huge naval shipyard. Most of the pictures of the shipyard didn't come out, but there 20 or more full-size cranes multiple smoke stacks, and tons of other heavy equipment covering an area of hundreds of acres. Incredible!
